Happy Holidays!

Hi Reader,

As we approach the end of the year, I’d like to wish you happy holidays!

I’ll be taking most of next week off from work to celebrate Christmas. Like you might also be doing, I’ll use the time for reflection, to look back in the past, and to look forward to the future.

I also need a short break from my usual pace. Tasks like year-end planning, 2025 budgeting, pro-forma financial statements, and AI news, can all take a break as well.

2024 Wrapped

How has 2024 been for you? For me, as a numbers and data guy, I’ll share with you my “2024 wrapped” from part of my retrospection so far which includes:

Adding value to people in careers:

  • Reviewed almost 300 resumes from job seekers.
  • Hosted 12 career workshop sessions with guest speakers.
  • Cohosted 10 data leaders cohort meetings and 1 social event.
  • Presented at 1 keynote speech, 1 classroom, and 2 webinars.
  • Scheduled over one hundred one-on-one coaching, mentoring, or networking sessions.

Building content library:

  • Published 16 Medium stories.
  • Sent out 36 weekly email newsletters (+1 more for this one).
  • Published 8 Better Future monthly newsletters on LinkedIn.

Tapping into technologies:

  • Recorded 672 interactive chat sessions with ChatGPT.
  • Ran countless SQL queries, pivot tables, and Python notebooks.
  • Inspected firewall rules, bots, and ASNs hundreds of times.

Rolling with everything else in life:

  • Prepared 12 monthly financial reports.
  • Voted twice in US Elections (general election in November and primary election in March).
  • Checked out physical items from the local library 69 times, with at least intent to read.
  • Flew on 5 airplane flights covering 16,420 miles with 32 hours in the air.
  • Logged 51 new bird types in my Life List in the AI-powered Merlin bird app.
  • Snapped 1,365 photos with 501 smiles with my phone by the end of November per Google Photos.

In the end, I’m not so sure all that busy-ness matters. What matters would be making an impact in the lives of the people around us. If AI and technology help us to do that, then terrific!

I’m grateful that many of us will get time this holiday season to reflect on what truly matters. Let me know if you get new insights.

Regardless of what transpires in the world, I wish you peace and happiness!

Jimmy Wong AI Jimmy Principles in Life For Any Circumstances January had been quite a month for us all to cope with. More goodbyes and transitions. Stock market crash from DeepSeek AI news. Plane crashes too. The latest plane crashes reminded me of when I was at the Los Angeles airport on February 1, 1991 when USAir flight 1493 from NY crashed on top of another plane already on the runway. 35 people died in the fiery accident. I was originally supposed to be on that USAir plane that had...

I still haven’t finished doomscrolling yet: Wildfires and earthquakes and plane crashes and severe storms and bird flu. Regime change in Canada, Korea, and Syria. Upcoming transition of power in US too. More layoffs from Microsoft and Meta and Amazon and Zillow. Swarming of US Tiktokkers into Chinese RedNote ahead of the ban. Price hikes from both...

People have also given me helpful feedback that I present too fast at events--it’s a real known issue. But I never got numbers until now.
